Conversations...

Today I am thankful for many things that happened and I am trying to be intentional about my ability to notice God’s hands and little things He does in my life. Here are a few things... from 1 day only- today!!!

·         I’ve been praying for Kenyan friends in my neighbourhood...I have met a few, for which I am grateful! This morning I met a lady who lives on my street (about my age!!! YIPPPEEE) who gave me a ride to the end of my road.

·         Chatted with some people along the way and got to the barrier gate at school. I was then offered 2 more lifts to school (which I took 1!).

·         I arrived to power in my classroom and my computer was working! J

·         Had a great morning with my class.

·         Ethiopian food for lunch! YUM!

·         I had to make a speech about the progress of the Preschool in a staff meeting. It went really well and I was able to share what’s going on. Got some positive feedback about my job (which was great!)

·         A conversation directly from God! Was speaking with a groundsman at school who thanked me for a Bible verse that I wrote for him a few weeks ago (after he was the hands and feet of Jesus for my kids!). J

·         Another conversation with a teacher’s wife all about life!

·         A phone call from my boss to say I had to come back to work and see her (to which she gave me a sweet card and gift for what I’ve been doing!).

·         A walk home in the sun (Yeah for no rain today!!)

·         A life-affirming conversation with a guard on my street, who I found out today is a widowed Dad, raising a 4 year old girl.

·         Another guard greeting me in Masai today.

·         A wonderful dinner cooked by my housemate.

·         A walk back to school for Bible study with some wonderful, Godly women. We’re studying a really interesting book that is challenging my heart immensely. Blessed to just pray with other women.

·         A lift home and a guard (and I guess the dog!! Haha) waiting to welcome me back.

I am thankful for the conversations. As I reflect on this list, I realise just how critical conversation and community is in this life in Africa (and should be everywhere else I guess!). I am amazed at how many conversations God uses in my life to reaffirm my calling to this place and to these people. Even when things seem tough, God is in the midst of it all. The simple things, the quick greetings...time spent chatting in the sun. God longs for us to create community with each other, to love and to support one another and to lift each other up. My prayer is that I am able to continue seeing these conversations as blessings from my maker!
